The Crazy Horse Memorial is under construction about 17 miles from Mt. Rushmore. The upper photo shows what it currently looks like and the lower one is of the small scale model of what it will eventually be. Blasting and carving has been going on for decades already so I don't expect to live to see this finished, but it is worth a visit for anyone who is in the area.

As you drive east from Cody on the way to the Black Hills, you cross through the Bighorn Range. The morning we crossed them the higher elevations were shrouded in clouds that we drove in and out of, and there was snow on the ground. Considering that this was on September 11th and the temperatures at lower elevations in the area were in the 70s, 35 degrees at the summit was impressive.
